Take part in a special guided tour of one of the most famous parliament buildings in the world. On this one-hour tour, we will visit the Reichstag and make our way to the top of the building: the spectacular dome with its magnificent panorama. In the meantime, your licensed tour guide will tell you exciting and authentic stories about the history of Berlin.
Since 1999, the historic Reichstag building in Berlin has once again been the seat of the German Bundestag. During the division of Germany and the GDR, the parliament had moved to Bonn in West Germany. As a symbol of the reunification of Germany in November 1989, the government decided to return to Berlin – this included the parliament, the Bundestag. Today, the Bundestag is the most popular parliament building in the world. More than one million people visit the historic Reichstag building every year.
Why is it the German Bundestag that is visited? Definitely because of its dramatic history. The building, which was erected in the 1870s, has experienced difficult times: Imperial times, crisis, civil war-like conditions, two world wars, revolutions, the division of Germany and reunification after almost 40 years. All of this has left its mark on the walls of this huge building.
The top of the Reichstag building is covered with a spectacular dome. From here we have a breathtaking 360-degree view over the city of Berlin. And we notice that the Reichstag is located in a prominent neighborhood: Brandenburg Gate, Friedrichstraße station (former border crossing during the GDR), Tiergarten, Platz der Republik, Charité – your tour guide will tell you about the many places around it.
The tour guide is looking forward to spending an unforgettable time with you and informing you about the past and present of Germany’s most important democratic institution. This includes some exciting insider information and stories about politicians, lobbies and even drug abuse….
As you might think, this tour is not all facts and information. We respect the serious topics and historical facts – but we also love to entertain, laugh and enjoy life! At the end of the tour, you will have the opportunity to attend the 40-minute presentation of the Bundestag in the plenary hall for free.
