Taste tasty beers and learn everything about the art of brewing beer and Hamburg as the brewing kettle of the Hanseatic League! Do you love beer? Then this city tour is just right for you! On this tour you can not only taste delicious beers, but also get to know Hamburg as a former beer metropolis from a different perspective! Your tour guide will unravel the myth about Bavarian beer and tell you who actually invented it.
Our beer tour starts in the legendary “Parliament” directly below the town hall, where the first “cool blonde” is served. We will clearly explain to you how beer is brewed today and where it originally comes from. You can follow the history of beer from its beginnings to the present and, among other things, we will tell you why the Egyptian pyramids would never have existed without beer.
Further past the old town hall, the tour takes you to Trostbrücke and Nikolaifleet, where almost 500 breweries used to be located. Around 1500, Hamburg was considered THE beer metropolis of the Hanseatic League, as the Hamburg brewers used a secret ingredient that could even be fatal. Near the Speicherstadt we then visit the legendary “Gröninger Brauhaus”, which is considered the oldest existing brewery in our Hanseatic city, to taste a typical Hamburg beer.
After the Middle Ages, we usher in the era of mass beer production from 1900 onwards in the picturesque Deichstrasse, where some of the city’s oldest houses stand. We end the tour of Hamburg with a typical English pale ale in a classic British pub and tell you about the great “beer flood” in London.
