A culinary journey through the creative scene stronghold of Düsseldorf
There are few districts that can look back on such an eventful history as Flingern. It was a long journey from the managed forest area to the industrial and workers’ quarter to the multicultural and creative scene stronghold of Düsseldorf. Where once the representatives of the eponymous knightly family “von Flingern” counted their tree trunks, today many investors calculate the total square meters of their condominiums…
On this tour we want to look together behind the facades of modern new buildings, abandoned factory buildings, trendy workers’ apartments and listed Art Nouveau villas. In the process, we uncover many a dark secret – because in Flingern there is a different story waiting on every street corner.
The exploration tour starts from the meeting point at the Wehrhahn U/S train station. Our guides look forward to making you laugh and be amazed in a relaxed atmosphere with well-researched information and exciting stories. Of course, there is always room for your open questions. On all of our tours, one thing is particularly important to us: we want to give our guests an unforgettable and family experience. We attach particular importance to a harmonious mix of hard facts and amusing stories from the neighborhood – mostly original, but always original!
This claim always leads us to lively districts off the beaten tourist path – away from the “classics”. Of course, the historic old town is also worth seeing, but it’s worth looking outside the box to feel and get to know a city up close. Our experience shows that even long-established locals can discover many new facets of their city. Who doesn’t know it: you often know the least about your own city.
Often it is the human and emotional fates that get stuck. During our research we gathered all sorts of them. Because behind the facades of Flingern there are sometimes unbelievable stories. Would you like a little teaser?
On this tour you will learn exciting and bizarre anecdotes about…
Flingern’s city history: forest area – industrial chimneys – condominiums
Flingern’s most exotic tourist: the turtle Ludwig
the “Vampire of Düsseldorf” and his evil machinations
the criminal Mr. “Mocca Graf von Tonelli” and his motto: “Fat things instead of nice things”
the years of revolt – when Flingern was the center of the squatter scene and alternative culture
a band and a football team that conquered the world from Flingern (okay, at least that applies to the band…)
important survival rules for classic faux pas that can happen at any time in Düsseldorf.Since we quickly get hungry with all this input, we always take timely breaks to treat ourselves to culinary delights in the authentic Flingern style: international, exceptional and yet down-to-earth. The selection of restaurants is representative of the diverse gastronomic scene in the district.
After three hours of discovering and feasting, it’s good to reflect on your experiences with a cool and typical Altbier – or you can move on immediately to the next adventure in North Rhine-Westphalia’s diverse state capital… -
