Berlin’s most exciting hotspots in an unusual way
Starting from our meeting point at Hackesche Höfe, we plunge into the colorful hustle and bustle of one of the capital’s trendiest districts. After the initial welcome and a brief introduction, you’ll already get a taste of how varied and insightful the next three hours will be. Here in Berlin-Mitte, you can feel the city’s eventful history directly at every street corner, in every backyard and on every market square.
We travel back to the origins of the capital, move through the imperial era, leave two world wars and the division of the city during the GDR era behind us and land unerringly in the here and now: In the contrasting “Mitte”, one of the city’s cultural flagships.
Most of the historic buildings, some of which date back to the 13th century, were renovated and preserved for posterity after the fall of communism in 1989.
So today we can marvel at an illustrious neighborhood: the imposing Isle of Museums, Berlin Cathedral with its gigantic dome, the rebuilt City Palace, the venerable Red City Hall and – not to forget – the famous television tower, all in a very small space. This was a monument of the political regime of the GDR, but it also triggered serious disputes.
Do you know…
… the definite truth about the invention of the currywurst?
… the incredible story of the underage Al Capone of Berlin?
… the “Pinselheinrich”, chronicler of the workers’ “Milljöh”?
… St. George, martyr and dragon slayer?
… the story of how a political system almost failed because of a nickname?
… or how a cross in the wrong place brought this system nothing but trouble? At each location, our trained guides will provide you with the most important facts and anecdotes in an entertaining and well-founded manner – but always with a smile on their faces and easily digestible portions.
Speaking of portions – before your stomach starts to growl, you can savour some food five times along the way! From hot to cold, from Berlin to the rest of the world. This selection is intended to reflect the diverse gastronomic scene in Mitte and at the same time surprise you with one or two unusual specialties.
After three entertaining hours, you can now relax and let the day and the many impressions work on you. Or you can be motivated by the refreshments and set off on your next adventure. After all, there’s never a boring moment in Berlin.
